Fiction Feedback Testimonials
These testimonials are from clients who have submitted flash fiction stories for feedback. Many write back to update me that their work was accepted in magazines and literary journals!
From Christopher Barnard, a client I’ve worked with regularly since 2025:
I had no background in writing fiction a couple of years ago, but for fun, I decided to have a go. I have so far had six stories published, either flashes of 1,000 words, or longer ones of 3,000 words. I have two more 3,000 word stories to be published within this year.
Allison worked with me on six of these stories. If I had not found her, I am sure that those stories would have died a natural death in my computer. Allison has taught me not to waste a story by being content with a mediocre start and ending, but to work on it until it is perfect.
She has helped me at both the sentence and the paragraph level, moving paragraphs and sentences around so that the story reads more smoothly and logically.
But the most important thing I have learnt is ‘not to throw away opportunities.’ Allison, for example: “You wrote ‘he opened the door’, but how, when, with what feelings, explain what the door was like. Every time you just skip over the door opening, you are missing an opportunity to write a story that hits home.” This is the most important thing I learnt from her. And she reads my revised version, and gives further feedback, which is wonderful.
